Beeswax

A beeswax candle has been in the Filled Stocking Company collection every year since 2019. 100% beeswax candles are something I can wax lyrical about... ha ha ha.

This year, our beeswax candles are dinner candles and they are so incredibly special. They were made by Anita (aka The Wandering Beekeeper) a matter of weeks before our 2023 collection launch and less than 5 miles from Filled Stocking HQ.

For hundreds of years, beeswax was the preferred candle wax by royalty, nobility and the church because of its pleasant aroma and beautiful light. Beeswax candles are the cleanest, brightest, and longest burning. It is important to take note that our candles are 100% beeswax, they are not a blend. Beeswax candles do not require chemical processing because beeswax has a high melting point and therefore doesn’t need any hardeners, additives, or chemical treatments for extend the burn time. Better still, beeswax doesn't need any artificial scents or colour. Beeswax candles get their scent from the nectar and honey that was originally stored in the honeycomb. Therefore, the scent changes slightly depending on what the bees were pollinating. Sometimes you can detect wildflowers, grasses, citrus, herbs or wild berries. Regardless of where the beeswax came from, beeswax candles have a subtle and pleasing, honey-like scent.

Beeswax candles emit light that is similar to the light spectrum of sunlight, this is due to its high melting point. Its density means that beeswax burns more slowly and drips less than other waxes.

If I haven't convinced you already, the real clincher is that burning beeswax actually purifies the air. While some may be sceptical about this claim, I can assure you that I have seen this work in practice and there is science behind the claim. Beeswax candles emit negative ions which bind with positively-charged dust particles suspended in the air and cause the floating particles to drop to the ground. This means that beeswax candles are a great option for people with allergies, asthma, sinuses and sensitivities.

Beeswax is a natural, renewable resource from an industry that helps the environment. Bees play a pivotal role in our lives by pollinating the crops we eat and plants in the wild. Beeswax is just another miracle that comes from these amazing insects.
